The Gotham Group’s feature production division is one of the leaders in the book-to-film space. Discovering and developing unique stories and voices with the best possible talent in the world is key to Gotham’s creative mandate. For more than a decade, Gotham’s strength in feature production has come from its incredibly diverse relationships with screenwriters, filmmakers, authors, publishers and co-agents around the world.
Beginning with Tony DiTerlizzi’s award-winning family adventure THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES, which Gotham produced for Paramount in 2008, The Gotham Group has sought out visually stunning and compelling stories that strive to entertain audiences worldwide. In the YA space, The Gotham Group produced THE MAZE RUNNER trilogy for 20th Century Fox, based on James Dashner’s New York Times #1 bestselling novels. The first movie in the series was released in 2014, and the series has made over $1 billion worldwide. On the prestige drama front, Gotham produced the father/son road trip film KODACHROME, which stars Ed Harris, Jason Sudeikis, and Elizabeth Olsen. KODACHROME is based on a New York Times article by A.G. Sulzberger, and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was acquired for distribution by Netflix, who released the film to rave review in April 2018. More recently, Gotham produced STARGIRL, based off the beloved novel by Jerry Spinelli, was released on Disney+ in March 2020. Following that release came ALL TOGETHER NOW, an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s acclaimed YA novel SORTA LIKE A ROCK STAR, which was produced for Netflix and released in August 2020. The movie was written and directed by Brett Haley and stars Auli’i Cravalho, Rhenzy Feliz, Justina Machado, Judy Reyes, Fred Armisen and Carol Burnett. Most recently, The Gotham Group completed production on HOLLYWOOD STARGIRL for Disney + starring Grace VanderWaal, Judy Greer, Judd Hirsch and Uma Thurman. The movie is currently in post-production and will be released in Spring 2022.
